About the Speaker

Stimulating others to develop an active prayer life of their own summarizes the thrust of Margaret Therkelsen’s ministry today.

As a child, she felt a call to a life of prayer that had been initially nurtured by her parents as she witnessed God working through them in prayer. Her father, a leader in the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church, gave a great sense of corporate prayer to her developing overall prayer pattern. From her father she also developed a unique quality of meeting people where they are in their walk then encouraging them to go on with God as they deepen their prayer life. From her mother, who was active in various prayer movements, Margaret developed a sense of how real and personal God can be in prayer.

Out of these early childhood experiences and her own personal seeking, God has developed in her a prayer ministry that He has used to affect the lives of many people. Her ministry has spread beyond local connections as today she leads prayer retreats and seminars across the United States.

Following a life-changing experience with the Holy Spirit, now some 37 years ago, and a physical healing, Margaret has felt a new urgency to her ministry. This has resulted in surrendering a 33-year teaching career in music at the college level. She returned to the university to receive a Master of Science degree in Marital and Family Studies from the University of Kentucky and now has a full counseling practice within this area. She has a daily spot on a Christian radio station and leads a prayer group in her local church.
