Rev. Greg Palmer Bishop of the Illinois Great River Conference
Rev. Palmer is the episcopal leader of the Illinois Area of The United Methodist Church.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa., Bishop Palmer is a “child of the church,” the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Herbert E. and Charlotte Sue Hewitt Palmer. Bishop Palmer’s father is a retired United Methodist pastor; his mother (now deceased)

was a school teacher in the Philadelphia Public School system.
Bishop Palmer received his undergraduate degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and his master’s of divinity degree from Duke Divinity School, Durham, N.C. Baldwin-Wallace College, Iowa Wesleyan College and Simpson College have all awarded him honorary degrees.
Ordained a deacon and probationary member in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference in 1977, Palmer was ordained an elder in full connection in the East Ohio Conference in 1981.
His pastoral career includes pastorates at Granville-Vance UMC’s and Durham Asbury Temple UMC in North Carolina; East Glennville UMC and Werner UMC in Cleveland, Ohio; James S. Thomas UMC in Canton, Ohio and the United Methodist Church of Berea, Berea, Ohio. Palmer also served as district superintendent of the Youngstown District of the East Ohio Conference.
In 2000, Palmer was elected to the episcopacy by the North Central Jurisdictional Conference. He was assigned to the Iowa Area where he served until assuming responsibilities in the Illinois Area. Bishop Palmer served the past quadrennium as president of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry and is currently president of the Council of Bishops.

F. Douglas Powe, Jr. Douglas Powe has served as the E. Stanley Jones Professor of Evangelism at Saint Paul School of Theology since 2004.
Dr. Powe’s areas of expertise include:
- Evangelism in the Local Church
- Theory and Practice of Evangelism
- Theologies and Models of Evangelism
- Evangelism Through Nurture and Care
- Evangelism in a Pluralistic Society

Dr. Powe is an active member of the American Academy of Religion and has made numerous presentations at their annual meetings as well as being active on the lecture circuit.
Dr. Powe is the co-author of Transforming Evangelism: The Wesleyan Way of Sharing Faith published by Discipleship Resources, Nashville, 2006.

Who Should Attend This Event? Pastors, Deacons, full and part-time local pastors, and seminary students headed into the ministry, AND Key Lay Leadership. This event is structured specifically for pastors and key lay leaders to come, be inspired, and learn some practical ideas for reaching the generations that are less likely to attend church.
Event Location Marion Aldersgate UMC, 1201 N. Fair Street, Marion IL. Upon registering by mail you will receive a map and directions in your pre-conference materials.
Event Cost Event cost is S50 per person. This fee includes two meals, but no lodging. Scholarships are available— applicants please contact Aldersgate UMC 618-997-6065
